The media project “00:00” is a social intervention project that reflects on the difficult and complex issues revolving around security and the trade off we make with privacy. The viewer is shown a four screen composite that have been stylized in the fashion of security cameras. On the bottom left hand of the screen, a count up timer is shown that starts at 00:00:00.000, which in a 24 hour clock is midnight, when there are a lot less active pedestrians roaming around the urban areas of the city. The four video compositions tell a narrative about theft and drug abuse. The audience is shown video footage of a man stealing a dog, as well as stealing an object from the inside of a vehicle. Also shown is a clip of an individual ingesting drugs in a public space. Although the media shown is acted out and rehearsed with props, the viewer should still receive a reaction of uncertainty when seeing the video.
No sound was used for “00:00” due to the fact that security cameras generally tend to not have any audio receivers. Also, without audio signifiers in the piece, the viewer has a harder time spotting out the different scenarios being shown.
